ACC Accessibility
Readable by default, adjustable on request.
This site is built so that the information works for as many people as possible: as static HTML, keyboard operable, honouring reduced-motion settings, and honest about the one place JavaScript is required.
01 How it is built
What is done, and how.
| Requirement | How it is met here |
|---|---|
| Works without JavaScript | Every information page is prerendered HTML. The checker is the only thing that needs JavaScript, and the page says so plainly and offers the readable guides instead. |
| Reduced motion is honoured | Reveal animations and the preloader are skipped entirely when the operating system asks for reduced motion. Counters show their final value immediately rather than animating. No parallax, no autoplaying video, no movement that cannot be stopped. |
| Keyboard operable throughout | A visible skip link is the first thing reachable. Every control — the menu, the tabs, the stepper chips, the checker — can be driven from the keyboard alone, and focus is never trapped. |
| Visible focus states | A two-pixel outline with an offset appears on every focusable element. Focus outlines are never removed for aesthetics. |
| Semantic structure | One h1 per page, headings in order, landmarks for header, main, footer and navigation, and breadcrumbs marked up as an ordered list with aria-current on the last item. |
| Forms that describe themselves | Every field has a programmatically associated label, errors are announced in a summary at the top of the step with links to the fields, and invalid fields carry aria-invalid. Radio groups are fieldsets with legends. |
| Colour and contrast | Body text meets at least 4.5:1 against its background. Colour is never the only way something is conveyed — every tick, flag and status also carries a word or a symbol. |
| Illustrations are decorative | All line art is marked aria-hidden and given no accessible name, because the caption beside it carries the meaning in words. |
02 The one exception
The checker needs JavaScript.
The eight-step checker computes its result in your browser, so it cannot run without JavaScript. That is the only part of the site that requires it, and the page states this in a visible note rather than failing silently.
Everything else — the eleven product pillars, the eight guides, the route comparison, the time-limit tables, the case hubs and every legal page — is prerendered HTML that reads and copies normally with scripting off. If you cannot use the checker, the guides contain the same rules in the same order, and the time-limit page carries the deadlines in a table.
- No content is hidden behind a hover, a carousel or an accordion that is closed by default
- No text is rendered as an image
- Tables have real header cells, so a screen reader can associate a value with its column
- Links describe their destination on their own, rather than saying “click here”
